Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) Guidance
As from 1st April 2008 no more that the equivalent of two full car boot loads of soil and rubble will be accepted free of charge each month
The Centres wil accept other types of construction and demolition waste, including those items in the list below, in quantities and frequencies that reflect normal levels of DIY activities within a home. If the quantitites and frequency with hich they are taken to HWRCs is though to be excessive, you will be asked to provide evidence of where the waste has come from
Other types of construction and demolition waste that can be taken to HWRCs in reasonable quantities include:
- Doors
- Sanitary ware (eg sinks toilets etc)
- Fencing
- Windows and frames
- Kitchen units
- Water tanks
- Cement Bonded Asbestos. Asbestos is only accepted at certain strategic HWRCs - see HWRCs Additional Guidance Information which you can obtain from www.northyorks.gov.uk/hwrc
What you need to do when you use HWRCs
The main purpose of HWRCs is to divert waste from landfill through reuse, recycling and compsting. You are therefore expected to seperate your waste and place it in the appropriate skip.
You should also deliver your waste in an appropriate container to make sure you can lift it into the opening of the skip. this will reduce your time cleaning up any waste that you spill and ensure your health and safety.
Ensuring HWRCs are safe and secure
To ensure HWRCs are being used ppropriately and are safe and secure North Yorkshire Council have installed authomatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and CCTV systems that are linked across their sites. This allows them to monitor vehicles using the HWRCs and will help in the event of any complaint or dispute.
